Airlee Beach

Hmmmm. 'Tacky and tremendous, exploited and exploitative' says Lonely Planet. Pretty much sums it up. Our first impression was of a crowded main street of bars, clubs, boutiques and chippies. Blackpool gone mad! Then the apartment we'd booked had obviously seen better days and had housed a heavy smoker as the smell was in everything. Staff tried to freshen it for us but not very successfully. Party people all around although it's amazingly quiet to sleep.
First full day put pay to our disappointment, when Pete had an afternoon's canoeing and I took in the shops and wonderful lagoon. Rounded off with a great fish dinner in a lively restaurant on the Esplanade and a walk back to our room past noisy bars full of young people Saturday-nighting to the full. A different experience again and just as enjoyable as our quiet backwater residences. Glittering lights by night, glittering sea by day.
We've been told this is the first Easter in years that there has been good weather; 33degrees, brilliant blue sky. Aren't we lucky.

Room might be less than perfect but view from balcony makes up for it!

  1. What a difference 22 years can make. Not the very beautiful, thriving resort we remember.
Win some, lose some. You've not done too badly yet.
